Happy New Year Everyone! Time to get together for a face to face. We have a few things to discuss, like some new people joining the mailing list who we hope will show up in person. Building community takes face to face meetings, but we can discuss on-line meetings if that is easier for people. We would like to see what people most want from this group so we can have a productive 2025.
Some new that might be up for discussion: The Centennial Building redesign is going before PAC this week. We understand there are some complaints, but moving that project forward to get more housing in the downtown will be a win.
Also, has anyone noticed the hostile architecture around town:
A Fredericton native told me he never thought that he would see the day that this was the approach to homelessness in his town. Certainly we are experiencing some compassion fatigue, but we should not add insult to injury for the unhoused. There was an article just this week on CBC that highlighted the plight of a former Ottawa councillor who is now homeless. It can happen to anyone. BTW, this particular bench is on the same block as this mural:
There is also the possibility of discussion around winter maintenance of trails and bike lanes. Oh look! you can plow around flex bollards:
We will show a short video on Wednesday to kick off a bit of discussion. Anyone want to bring popcorn?
So as it said in the header, 6:30 PM, this Wednesday the 15th of January at the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, 180 St-John Street, downtown Fredericton. Come one, come all. …And remember, be kind and stay strong Freddy!
